What Does Winter Mean to You: A Beginning or an End?
Winter always reminds me of the power of nature and its cycles – moments when everything pauses, calms down, and retreats into silence. It’s a time when nature withdraws into peace and quiet, offering space for reflection. When you look at the snow covering the landscape, do you see the end of the year or a blank page ready for writing new stories?
This year has been a year of change. For me, it has meant stepping outside my comfort zone, discovering new directions, and bravely facing the unknown. It hasn’t always been easy, but every challenge brought an opportunity for growth.
Winter not only reminds us of nature’s cycles but also of our inner rhythms. According to traditional medicine, this is the time when the kidneys are especially emphasized – an organ that symbolizes vital energy, courage, and connection to our deepest emotions.
The kidneys are the foundation of our life force, but also a reservoir for fears and insecurities. Winter, with its silence and slowness, offers us the opportunity to recognize these emotions, confront them, and let go of what no longer serves us. Just as the kidneys filter the body, we too can filter our thoughts and feelings – keeping what strengthens us and releasing what weighs us down.
Perhaps it’s time to ask yourself – what in your life is ready to end? Which patterns, fears, or burdens no longer belong in your story? Winter invites you to let them go.
At the same time, winter offers the chance for a new beginning. Just as nature quietly prepares the foundation for spring awakening, you too can feel your inner rhythms and direct yourself toward new decisions, fresh ideas, and courageous steps.
Perhaps the snow won’t blanket every valley, but those who venture into the mountains will find what nature has so generously prepared – fresh air, silence that calms the mind, and views that expand your perspective. Take a walk, feel how the cold wind clears your thoughts and brings you back to the present moment. Let this be your gift to yourself.
This is also a time of celebrations and family gatherings. I encourage you, when gathering with family, to set aside your phones, turn off notifications and pop-ups, and dedicate yourselves to one another. Listen to what your loved ones are saying – not just with words, but with their eyes. These moments are not for conversations about work but for laughter, small stories, and sharing what brings us closer. Be fully present, for it is these little moments that stay with us and warm us long after the holidays have passed.
These days are not for rushing but for peace. For the opportunity to retreat into our thoughts, give thanks for all we have experienced, and decide where to go next. You don’t have to have all the answers – just take one small step toward yourself.
Nature always teaches us that strength lies in simplicity. Allow yourself this winter to be part of that rhythm – retreat, slow down, take a deep breath, and find what brings you peace.
Thank you for being part of my journey. May the new year bring you new paths, brave steps, and moments that fill your heart. And may nature always remind you of what truly matters.
Warm regards,
Mila
